Rondebosch Golf Club: Sand & Seal Timber Floor

The brief

Rondebosch Golf Club had a solid timber floor that had spent years hidden under carpet. Rather than replace it, the club wanted to uncover and restore the original wood, a more characterful, hard-wearing and cost-effective result than laying something new on top.

What we did

We lifted and removed the existing carpet and underlay, then assessed the timber beneath. With the boards exposed, we carried out a full sand, scrub and seal, machine-sanding back to clean, bare wood, then building up a tough protective sealer to bring out the grain and stand up to clubhouse foot traffic. All 90 m² was restored in place, with no new flooring supplied.

Why restore instead of replace: a sound timber floor is worth saving. Sanding and sealing revives the original character, avoids the cost and waste of new material, and leaves a surface that can be refreshed again years down the line.

The result

A warm, characterful timber floor brought back from under the carpet, sealed, protected and ready for another chapter of clubhouse life.
