Mowbray Attic Renovation

The brief

A Mowbray home was converting its attic, with the old attic bathroom cleanly removed by KwikFlo Plumbing (Ebrahim, 060 986 5702). Underneath was the original floor, uneven, with the old bitumen waterproofing from the previous build still in place, all of which needed sorting before a new floor could go down. The client had already chosen and supplied their own vinyl tiles, and asked us to prepare the floor and lay them properly.

What we did

Bitumen is a problem base for a new floor, it can bleed through and it stops modern adhesives bonding, so we first sealed and neutralised the old bitumen to lock it down. Over that we applied a feather-finish screed, skimming the floor to a smooth, dead-flat surface. With a sound, sealed and level base ready, we installed the client’s vinyl tiles for a clean, hard-wearing finish.

The result

A tricky attic base turned into a clean, level, finished floor, the client’s tiles laid on a surface built to hold them, ready for the room’s new life.
